Independence 5, Union 4
On July 8, Union traveled to Independence and dropped a close game 5-4. Union struck first in the second inning when junior Brady Driscol singled, stole second, and scored on a misplayed ball hit by freshman Cael Lambe.
Independence took the lead in the bottom of the third as they collected three hits and capitalized on a Union error to put the score at 2-1 after three innings of play.
Union would tie the game in the fifth when Tecklenburg reached on an error and later scored on a misplayed ball hit by Driscol. Independence answered right back in the bottom half by scoring one and taking a slim lead 3-2 heading to the sixth.
Union got things going in the sixth when junior Austin Kiler drew a one out walk, stole second, and scored on a hit by junior Justin Carey. Freshman Derek Holschlag followed up with a single of his own to score Carey to put the score at 4-3 Union.
Independence was able to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead. Union was able to get a runner into scoring position in the top of the seventh but was unable to push the run across.
Union is now 13-7 in the conference and 13-16 overall.
