Union 4, Aplington-Parkersburg 2
On July 2, the Union Knights beat Aplington-Parkersburg 4-2. Union got things going in the second as junior Brady Driscol, who returned to the lineup after recovering from an injury for several weeks, lead things off with a hit. Driscol then stole second and scored on a ground out by Stech. A-P answered with two runs in the top of the third off of Union starter Justin Carey to take a 2-1 lead.
Union answered right back with a lone run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2-2. Sells lead off with a sharp single to right, Carey reached on an error, and Holschlag sacrificed the runners to second and third. A Tecklenburg fly ball would then push Sells across to tie the game.
Junior Austin Kiler got things going in the bottom of the fifth with a lead off single. Sophomore Bryon Sells bunted him to second which allowed Kiler to score on a single by Tecklenburg.
The Knights tacked on an insurance run in the sixth as Driscol reached on an error, took second on the same play, stole third, and scored on a single by Stech.
Carey threw a very solid game giving up just three hits, striking out four, and walking one.
Union is now in third place in the NICL East with a 10-7 record.
