The Union girls basketball team had a tall order in their second postseason game, tackle the 8th-ranked Hampton-Dumont squad in Hampton. Despite scoring just two pints in the first eight minutes, the Knights played a strong second quarter and entered the half trailing by just one point, 18-17.
Union hung tough the second half, and though they trailed by three after three quarters, Hampton-Dumont was able to maintain their lead for a 56-49 win. The Knights were led in scoring by Courtney Powell, who tallied 18, and Kaeli Block, who added 17. Jackie Barz added five p[oints and led the team with five rebounds.
A young Union squad, which started five sophomores at Hampton, finished the season with an 18-5 record. The Knights will graduate seniors Kaylee Sherwood and Morgan Phillips.
