Troy Hanus completed 17 of 23 passes for a season-high 290 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Union Knights past the Cougars of Cascade (Western Dubuque). The win clinched sole possession of second place in the district for the Knights, propelling them to their ninth consecutive postseason appearance.
Cascade controlled the early action, but the Union defense used a first quarter interception and fourth down stop to turn the tide. After a Dakota Hora field goal late in the period, the Union offense found its stride in the second quarter, scoring four touchdowns for a 32-7 lead at the half.
Koby Alpers led the Union receiving corps with seven catches for 161 yards and three touchdowns.
On Friday, Union will go on the road to face Crestwood of Cresco in a first round playoff game.
