The event is to raise community awareness for Mason Gonzalez. He is the 3 year old son of Amy and Jesus Gonzalez of La Porte City. When Mason was 15 months old he was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome (AS). Children with AS suffer from severe developmental delays, including lack of speech, seizures and sleep disturbances. Despite that, it is not unusual for those with AS to display a very happy demeanour.
Following the Walk, there will be food and family-friendly activities in the park, all for a free-will donation. In addition to face painting, bouncy houses and several other activities, a raffle drawing will also be conducted.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics (FAST) to help find a cure for Angelman Syndrome.
Those interested in helping at the event or wishing to make a donation should contact event coordinator Alisha Evans at 319-415-4105 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
