On a unanimous vote, the City Council of La Porte City approved Mayor Dave Neil’s appointment of Chris Brecher to serve as the city’s Chief of Police. The appointment came at the Council’s meeting on March 26. Brecher, 31, started with the La Porte City Police Department in 2009 and succeeds Larry Feaker, who had served as the community’s Chief of Police since 1986.

Brecher is a lifelong resident of La Porte City, graduating from Union High School in 2004. He graduated from Hawkeye Community College’s Police Science Program in 2009 and was academically top of his class in the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. He and his wife, Breanna, have two children, ages two and four.

In other business at the March 26 meeting, the Council approved FY19 wages for the City’s union, non-union and seasonal employees. The Council also approved updated job descriptions for the City Clerk, Deputy City Clerk and Zoning Administrator.
