On Friday, April 19 “A Night of Magic” will be presented in Union High School’s Matt Auditorium at 7 PM. This magical event is a benefit for Hawkins Memorial Library.

At 5 PM the evening starts with close-up magic performed by professional magicians. A hot dog meal is available until 7 PM. From 6:00 to 6:30 PM, aspiring magicians can participate in a magic class to learn three different tricks from several of the evening’s entertainers. Tickets for the magic class should be purchased in advance at the library for $5.00 per person. The magic class is recommended for ages eight and older, and the number of participants is limited.

The Magic Show runs from 7:00-8:30 PM, featuring four stage performers from the Quad Cities Magic Club. Tickets are $4.00 per person, with ages three and under free. Tickets may be purchased in advance at Hawkins Memorial Library, La Porte City Bakery, Farmers State Bank, and Laurie’s Boutique. Remaining tickets will be available at the door the night of the event.

Performing the evening’s magic are members of the Quad Cities Magic Club. This club consists of both amateur and professional magicians. Your Master of Ceremonies will be Comical Magician Rick Eugene. The four stage performers are Eric Dany, who performs a wide range of magic from close-up to illusions, Ken Cooper, a magician of varied magical talents, Laura Anderson, specializing in kids comedy magic and puppets, and Craig Steven, who performs both stand-up and sleight of hand magic. Additional club magicians will be present to perform close-up magic prior to the 7 PM show.

Money from this benefit will go toward much needed building improvements at Hawkins Memorial Library, such as a new roof, sealing the brickwork, repainting, and other overdue repairs. Your donations also enable the library to continue to provide and expand the programs and materials offered to the community.  Check out our website, http://www.laportecity.lib.ia.us/, for a listing of programs, and “like” us on Facebook to see what has been happening at the library.  Everyone is encouraged to use and support their library.
