To celebrate America Recycles Day, November 15th, the Waste Trac Education Team is providing free reuse/recycling activities in partnership with Hawkins Memorial Library.

On Wednesday, November 13, the library is offering a craft open house where families can drop in from 1 to 3:30 PM to do upcycling craft projects. Waste Trac will offer simple crafts for little squirts, up to more complicated ones, such as origami boxes made from piano music, for the 5th-8th graders, or even adults. There will also be Thanksgiving and Christmas crafts using old sheet music, puzzle pieces, holiday cards, and other materials that have been collected. All “junk” and craft supplies will be provided.

Waste Trac pencils made from recycled money will be given to participants of Hawkins Memorial Library’s America Recycles Day program. The Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission and the Black Hawk County Conservation Board have partnered together since 1995, to offer free waste reduction educational programs in Black Hawk County. The Waste Trac Education Team is based out of Hartman Reserve Nature Center in Cedar Falls.

November 13 is a scheduled early out school day for the Union Community School District.  The movie Monsters University will also be showing that afternoon in the library, beginning at 1:15 PM.
