Annabell Richardson, Allen Hospital volunteer and La Porte City resident was recently recognized as a CARE Counts All Star for her work at Allen Hospital. CARE Counts recognizes staff, physicians and volunteers for dedication to providing exemplary experiences at Allen. Her nominee wrote, “Allen Hospital could not run without our wonderful volunteers. Annabell always has a smile on her face and is so helpful.” Logging over 6,000 volunteer hours since 2001, Annabell is a fixture in the Allen Hospital Gift Shop. She has held leadership roles as Auxiliary Board President and past president. During her tenure as president of the Allen Auxiliary the Auxiliary increased scholarship giving, contributed to greenspace/healing garden, and made a $100,000 pledge to Allen College expansion.
Annabell was inspired to become a hospital volunteer many years ago while on a cruise when her husband became ill and required hospitalization in Puerto Rico. Volunteers in that hospital were very helpful to her and she vowed to someday pay it forward. Pay it forward is what she does each week she volunteers at Allen Hospital.
