The Waterloo Community Playhouse (WCP) is announcing upcoming auditions for its presentation of the musical, Little Shop of Horrors on Thursday, August 6 at 7 PM and Sunday, August 9 at 2 PM. Production dates are October 16-25. This will be the directing debut at WCP for new Artistic Director, Greg Holt. Music Direction will be by Linda Sharp and Choreography by Jordan Makinster. The show focuses on Seymour Krelborn, a meek and dejected assistant at a floral show who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names “Audrey II” after his crush at the shop. Little does he know that this strange and unusual plant will develop a soulful R & B voice, a potty mouth, and an unquenchable thirst for human blood. As Audrey II grows bigger and meaner, the carnivorous plant promises limitless fame and fortune to Seymour, as long as he continues providing a fresh supply of blood.
All people interested in auditioning should bring piano music and be prepared to sing between 16 and 32 bars of an up tempo song, preferably in the style of Little Shop (50s/60s Rock, R & B or Doo-Wop). We want to hear how people sing with piano accompaniment, so no a capella or pre-recorded music please. A prepared monologue of 1½ minutes or less is encouraged but not required. Cold reading from the script will also happen.
Full audition details can be found at WCP’s website www.wcpbhct.org. For further information please contact (319) 235-0367 Tuesday-Friday from 8 AM-6 PM.
