The Union Knights’ baseball team traveled to Waterloo Columbus on June 12 to take on the home team. The Knights controlled the game most of the way, but gave up two runs in the sixth inning to loss a well played game 3-2.
Columbus scored first in the second inning, but Union responded with two runs in the bottom of the third. Alex Kane lead the inning off by drawing a walk which was followed by singles by Kiler and Carey. Both would score on a two out single by Alex Barz. The lead would remain with the Knights 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth when Columbus scored two runs off starter Justin Carey. Carey threw a solid game giving up just two earned runs, five hits, struck out 4 and walked five.
Carey, Holschlag, Barz, Sells, Kane, and Kiler all collected hits.
Union is 5-4 in the conference and 5-10 overall.
