Columbus 9, Union 2

The Knights racked up six hits, but it wasn’t enough, as Knights were 9-2 losers on Monday, June 29 at the hands of Waterloo Columbus.

Luke Farley got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over seven innings. Farley struck out eight, walked four and gave up six hits.

Columbus was sparked by Isaac Squires and Joe Duggan, who teamed up for five hits and four RBIs.

Alex Barz took the loss for the Knights. He allowed eight runs in three innings, walked three and struck out three.

The game was never in doubt after the first, as Columbus scored two runs on an RBI single by Gregg Glass.

Columbus piled on six more runs in the bottom of the third. The inning got off to a hot start when Lucas Benda doubled, bringing home Glass. That was followed up by Duggan’s single, plating Benda.

Two runs in the top of the sixth helped the Knights close its deficit to 9-2. An RBI double by Alex Barz and a groundout by Cael Lambe sparked the Knights’ rally. But, Farley got a Union batter to strike out to end the inning.

Columbus 3, Union 1

Justin Carey did his best to change the outcome, but Carey couldn’t lead the Knights past Columbus as the Knights lost 3-1 in seven innings on Monday, June 29.

Carey baffled Columbus, striking out seven batters. Carey allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks over six innings.

Lucas Benda got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed one run over seven innings. He struck out five, walked none and surrendered four hits.

Carey ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss.

Columbus never trailed after scoring two runs in the first on an RBI double by Luke Farley.

Union is 13-10 overall and 10-6 in the conference.  Columbus is 22-2 and remains unbeaten in the conference.
