The Union Baseball Team travel to Jesup on June 10 to come away with a 8-7 win.
The Knights jumped up quickly to take a 7-0 lead after two and a half innings of play and looked well on their way to a five inning game however the Jayhawks had a strong answer in the third by scoring five runs to make it a game. Union’s scoring started in the first with sophomore Justin Carey reaching on a walk, junior Ted Tecklenburg followed with a hit, and sophomore Brady Driscol’s hit scored Carey. Senior Will Crees continued the hitting with a RBI double scoring Tecklenburg. Union’s scoring continued in the second with four more runs. Carey reached base on a fielder’s choice and consecutive hits by Tecklenburg and Driscol loaded the bases for clean up hitter Crees. Crees delivered with a two out bases clearing double. After sophomore Alex Barz was hit by a pitch, Crees scored on a single by junior Bo Bader.
Union added one more run in the third when senior Nic Peters lead off with a double and later scored on a balk and wild pitch. The Knights lone run in the sixth proved to be the winning run as Carey lead things off with a double and later scored on a Crees single.
Jesup closed the gap with single runs in the fourth and sixth and threatened in the bottom of the seventh. Union starter Peters closed the door with a stike out to end the game with Jayhawks standing on second and third.
Peters picked up the complete game win on the mound giving up eleven hits while strking out eight. As a team, Union collected 15 hits; Carey (2), Tecklenburg (3), Driscol (2), Crees (3), Peters (2), Bader, and Clark (2).
