From derby divas to the thundering sound of cannon fire from a Civil War encampment, the 2015 edition of La Porte City’s Festival of Trails gets underway on Friday, June 19. Toss in a parade, car cruise, a pyromusical fireworks display and two evenings of live music on Main Street, and you’ll get what promises to be a classic celebration.
Prior to the “Celebrating the Classics” themed parade on Friday, June 19, the presentation of the Jesse Wasson, Woman of the Year and Business of the Year awards will take place on the Main Street stage at 6 PM.
At 8 PM, Easy Street takes the stage for an evening of entertainment to accompany the carnival and other Main Street activities. When darkness descends, a pyromusical fireworks show, complete with classic tunes, will commence on the grounds of La Porte City Elementary School.
On Saturday, festival-goers can enjoy an omelette breakfast and golf tournament at the La Porte City Golf Club. From 10 AM – 2 PM, scoop the loot by visiting five festival venues: Civil War Living History Encampment, the Chainsaw Competition, FFA Historical & Ag Museum, the Car Show and National Guard Rock Wall and Joiusting Area.
Wagon rides on the Cedar Valley Nature Trail, a Sand Volleyball Tournament at Union High School, Sing Me to Heaven’s duck race and raffle at the Family Aquatic Center, Magic Show at Hawkins Memorial Library and performance by the Cedar Valley Big Band on the Main Street stage offer something for everyone to enjoy on Saturday morning and afternoon. At 4:30, the Derby Divas will put on a show at Union High School before the Classic Car Cruise takes center stage on Main Street at 6 PM.
At 7 PM, a live auction featuring the chainsaw creations carved during the weekend will take place on Main Street, before Stampede closes the show with live music from 8 PM to midnight.
