During the month of July, Bill Colwell Ford in Hudson collected items to send to the men and women in the military deployed away from their families during the “Fill a ‘50” campaign, challenging the community to fill the bed of an F-150 pickup truck. In collaboration with the non-profit organization, Give 2 The Troops, the dealership collected items that soldiers often miss when they are overseas, such as snacks and DVDs. These items were then shipped to Connecticut to be bundled into care packages and sent around the world.

“During July, we often celebrate our freedom with fireworks and grilling,” said Bill Colwell, owner of the Ford franchise.

“We wanted to celebrate the month this year by doing a little something extra to thank those men and women who give up so much for us.”

Thanks to the surrounding community, Bill Colwell Ford was able to collect 581 items totaling over 258 pounds! The items were packaged and then sent to Give 2 The Troops.  Each box contained a letter informing our troops that these items were donated from Hudson and surrounding communities. The dealership took care of all shipping fees and held a drawing for a Weber grill and accessories for anyone who brought in items. Susan Robertson of La Porte City was the lucky winner.

“We knew the shipping costs would be significant, but it is the least we can do after the community showed such generosity,” said Colwell.

“It is always such a great surprise how many people show up to help a good cause.”
