After a promising 4-0 start to the 2016-2017 season, followed by nine losses in their next ten games, the Union Knights were looking to get back in a winning way at home on January 24 against conference foe Denver.

Things looked great early for Union fans, as the Knights scored the first seven points of the game and held a 13-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Denver found the range in the second quarter, pulling within five, 27-22 at the break for halftime. After an even third period , the Knights took a five point lead to begin the final frame. The Cyclones kept up the pressure, though, and grabbed their first lead of the game, 44-43, at the 4:36 mark. It was a lead they would not relinquish, holding off a Union rally for a 51-50 victory.

The Knights will host Dike-New Hartford on Senior Night, Friday, February 3, with the varsity game tipping off at approximately 7:45 PM.

Two more home games remain on Union’s schedule after that, hosting North Tama and Sumner-Fredericksburg for back-to-back games February 6-7.
