Union Boys Tennis returned to Byrnes Park on Tuesday, May 17 for the Columbus Invite Tennis Tourney. Our efforts fell far short of expectations, as it was not a stellar day for the netmen. In a newly configured schedule and scoring we definitely didn’t play very well. Playing each opponent from every other school in each division made for a long day.
At #1 Singles Charles Kronschnabel went 0-4, at #2 Singles Hunter Fleshner went 1-3 but came within an eyelash of defeating 2nd place finisher Nick Ellis of A/P, at #3 Trevor Krug had the most success on the day with a 2-2 record, #4 Taylor Brown finished 0-4, #5 Weston Krug wound up with a 1-3 record and at #6 Levi Gray went 0-4. What was frustrating was 5-4 losses in 6 matches, we did win one 5-4 match with Weston’s victory over Appel of Grundy Center.
In doubles, #1 doubles of Kronschnabel/Fleshner went 1-3, #2 Doubles Krug/Krug went 0-4, and #3 Doubles went 1-3. Union finished in 5th place with 15 points.
The Boys Tennis team would like to extend a very big thank you to Lisa Pauling and Lynette Hicks for providing lunch/snacks for the team throughout the day.
