With the fast paced world of modern society, making things from scratch is a thing of the past. Not so for the ladies of the Brandon United Methodist Church, who have found that when it comes to old-fashioned chicken and noodles, home-made wins every time. That is why each September they get together to make egg noodles from scratch, lots of them, to serve at their annual Chicken Noodle dinner.
This year, a group of 15 volunteers, ages five and up, gathered together to carry on a tradition that has been passed from generation to the next. In just a few hours the group mixed, rolled, cut and hung thousands of noodles, enough to make more than 30 gallons of noodles!
Chicken and noodles, circa 2014, required more than 12 dozen eggs and 50 pounds of flour to create the noodles, all 185 pounds of them. Along with the featured main course, the Brandon church will be serving mashed potatoes, squash, green beans and rolls, along with a full salad bar, and dessert. The dinner is served from 4:30-7:30 PM on Saturday, September 27th at the Brandon United Methodist Church, located at 507 Main Street in Brandon. Cost for the meal is $8.00 for Adults, $4.00 for children ages 5-12, and free for those four and under.
