Meyer- 50

Jim and Dianne Meyer will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an Open House on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 1 to 4 PM at Odd Pops, 216 Main Street, La Porte City.
They were married on January 30, 1969 in Oxford, Iowa.
Jim is retired from Sears after 38 years and worked for Spence Fertilizer for 40 years. Dianne is retired from Covenant Medical Center after 43 years.
They have two sons, Tim and Randy, who both reside in Waterloo.
Join us to help them celebrate their special day.

Nichols – 70

Lee and Bonnie (Krantz) Nichols were married December 31, 1948, at the Calvary Bible Church in Washburn, Iowa, where they met in Youth Group.
They are the parents of John (Cindy) of Fairfax, Kathy (Jim) Lee of Ankeny, and Tom (Lori) of Anamosa.
Lee and Bonnie are engaged in farming and live in the Century Farm house in which Lee was born. They owned and operated Nichols Aviation, which started as a grass strip in 1963.
They became Cessna dealers in 1967 promoting aviation with flight instruction, airplane rental and sales. Together they hosted the annual Flight Breakfasts on Labor Day, which were well attended by fly-ins and local residents. Lee held his commercial pilot rating, working with the Black Hawk County ASCS taking aerial photos, and Bonnie her private pilot license, often flying airplanes for inspections to Forrest City or Monticello. Each of their children and their son-in-law also learned to fly.
They were recognized by the Iowa Flying Farmers as Airport Operators of the Year, also receiving the same award at the International Flying Farmers level. Lee was inducted into the Iowa Aviation Museum in Greenfield, in 2014 as a 2nd Generation Iowa Aviation Promoter of the 1970’s and 1980’s. He turned 90 on December 5, continues to raise cattle and holds his private pilot rating.

Meyer – 50

On August 10, 1968 Elmer Meyer (son of Willis and Helen (Martin) Meyer) married Marilyn Hoyt (daughter of Oren and Gwen (Fehl) Hoyt) at the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City. Together they raised three children, Gean, Chad and Michelle on an acreage east of Dysart.
Elmer was employed at John Deere for 32 years, retiring in 2004. He started in the Foundry and ending his career on the rod line at the Engine Works. Elmer also was a 4-H Leader, raised livestock, mainly pigs. He also had a part in the Dysart FFA helping several FFA Members raise pigs for their projects. That partnership ended when the Dysart–Geneseo and La Porte City schools merged.
Marilyn was employed at Schoitz Memorial Hospital which merged with St. Francis Hospital and was named Covenant Medical Center. While there she worked in the Materials Dept., Print Shop and last in the DME Billing Dept., retiring in 2009.
Elmer and Marilyn love spending time with their family. They have many hobbies they enjoy doing together: ATV/UTVing in WI and MI, camping, canoeing and taking their show truck to car shows and car cruises. They love going south to their winter home in AZ. Elmer enjoys tinkering with wood projects, making board games or even bigger projects like cabinets. Marilyn enjoys working in the yard, gardening, quilting, playing the piano and organ.
Together they have watched their family grow. Oldest son Gean married Katherine (Teasdale-Zenner), between the two they have four children, Lucus Meyer, Zoie (Matt) Feuerbach, Christopher Meyer and Kyle (Jessica Davis) Zenner. Kyle and Jessica they have three children, Matt (Franzen), Julian and Aubrey Zenner.
Chad married Danielle (Hendershot) Meyer and together they have two children, Ethen and Brock Meyer.
Michelle married Jared Morrison and together they have two children, Candace and Kirsten Morrison.
The couples’ children and spouses hosted a Surprise Party on July 28th at the La Porte City Golf Club.

Fuson – 50

Carolyn and Larry Fuson will celebrate their 50th anniversary on August 31. Their children include Dede (Darwin) Else of La Porte City, Janelle Fuson of Waverly and LaRae (Darol) of Elkader. The Fusons have 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
