Governor Terry Branstad has proclaimed June 14-20 as Iowa Museum week. This special recognition highlights the contributions museums make to communities all over Iowa. Museums provide education and outreach for all ages, provide tourism revenue and job creation, and contribute to the overall quality of life that makes Iowa’s communities great places to live, work and raise a family.
The La Porte City FFA Historical and Ag Museum has a month long celebration of activities including:
Thursday, June 11: Fleece, Feathers and Fun: An opportunity for children to unlock their imagination through the creative world of puppets. This marks the start of the museum’s summer enrichment series for students.
Saturday, June 20: Lego Land & Art Studio : The Museum will celebrate Festival of Trails by once again offering the popular Lego Land. Thousands of Legos will be available to construct the creation of your dreams! Children will have an opportunities to create a masterpiece in the Art Studio. Take a break and enjoy the air-conditioned comfort of the Museum. Admission is $1.00 for adults and children 12 and under are free. Children five and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Thursday, June 25: Microscope Mania: An opportunity for students to explore the invisible world around them using microscopes.
Tuesday, June 30: Voices from the Past : An opportunity to learn about the history of Westview Cemetery and some facts about the prominent citizens and colorful characters who rest there. The museum will offer a daytime session for students, as well as an evening session for adults.
