The La Porte City Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 2013 Jesse Wasson Award. The award will be presented during this year’s Festival of Trails celebration, slated for June 14 and 15.

Dr. Jesse Wasson played a very prominent role in the settlement of La Porte City. He was the city’s first physician, Justice of the Peace and Postmaster. La Porte City’s first newspaper, The Progress, was first published by Dr. Wasson in 1855. He was also the first physician. His life resulted in great good to his community.

Award nominations should reflect the accomplishments of citizens who have made a difference in the community of La Porte City.

Nomination forms are now available at several local businesses: Thriftway, Hawkins Memorial Library, LPC Bakery, Cedar Valley Bank & Trust, Farmers State Bank, LPC Telephone Co., Sunshine Florals & Gifts and La Porte City Utilities.

For consideration, completed nomination forms are due at City Hall by Friday, May 17, 2013.
