Following action taken by the City Council, the operation of certain UTVs (Utility Task Vehicles) are now legal on the streets of La Porte City. At a meeting on September 26, the Council adopted Ordinance 511, which allows for the use of small, motorized vehicles such as golf carts, on city streets. While the ordinance broadens the number and types of small vehicles allowed on city streets, it also defines the specifications for qualifying vehicles. Each golf cart/UTV must be registered and owners may only operate them during specified hours. See page five for the complete ordinance.
In October, the City Council will take their meetings on the road, so to speak. The Council’s October 10 meeting will be held at the FFA Historical & Ag Museum, located at 408 Main Street. The regularly scheduled October 24 meeting will be conducted at Hawkins Memorial Library (308 Main Street).
In other business, the Council approved the first reading of an ordinance that will prohibit parking on the south side of Bishop Avenue from Main Street east 2,410 feet to the City limit. The second reading of the ordinance is slated for October 10.
