There is a LOT going on in this community in the coming weeks. You don’t have to leave the city limits to stay busy. For school kids it is soccer, baseball, golf, track, tennis, musical events, prom…you don’t need me to tell you about the activity in those homes! A lot of those same families are sorting through “stuff” for the annual LPC Garage Sale Day scheduled for May 4th.

The After Prom committee is doing a Spring Fling too. Theirs is the Spring Fling Fun Run. That event begins at 9 AM on Saturday, the 20th at Union High School. Both runners and walkers are welcome to participate. The night before the Run you can be entertained at Matt Auditorium by “A Night of Magic,” which will benefit the local Library.

Next Tuesday, April 23, the LPC Women’s Club will host their Spring Fling at the Golf Club. That has become a major event! Good food, great style show by Henkle Creek and Cameron’s from Vinton, two of my favorite places to shop. The local connection is their very helpful salesperson Linda DeSousa. As I write there are still tickets available.

If you were in town Saturday April 6th you know the bikers are back! On the same day as the city garage sales the new Trail Bridge over the Cedar will be dedicated, drawing many to McFarlane Park. Union Station is ready to brighten the corner of Main and Commercial. The LPC Golf Club has turned  green and looks great – ready for locals and guests to enjoy themselves in Iowa’s outdoors at its best. Spring has sprung!

Last week the Pioneer Seed Company presented the Union FFA Chapter with a check for $1500 to help with their orchard project. A community orchard! What a great idea. Top all of these events with the opening of the FFA-LPC Museum on Main Street and at the restored Fire Station with some of the greatest exhibits ever and you have it: LPC…a “Loads of Potential Community”!
