FY17 Budget: The City Council of La Porte City met on March 14 and approved the budget for the 2017 Fiscal Year. City residents will see an increase of just over one percent on the municipal portion of their property tax bill for the fiscal year that begins on July 1, 2016.

Sweet Lots: Lots in the Sweet Addition continue to be purchased at a phenomenal rate, as the City accepted offers to purchase eight lots in the development on the south side of town.
Construction Projects: In other business, the Council accepted a bid of nearly $750,000 for the reconstruction of Bishop Avenue from Cedar Street to the railroad crossing and a storm sewer extension at Bishop and Cedar Streets. Construction is set ti begin after June 1, 2016. The Council also awarded the contract for survey work related to the new Public Works Facility to Great Plains Survey.
