On Saturday, September 15th, Tootsie’s invites area residents to take the fight to cancer by participating in the Dr. V Dub Memorial Car Cruise. The cruise is the brainchild of Corey Seibert and his good friend, Neal Caraway, whose life was claimed by cancer at the age of 53 on January 31, 2016.

Caraway, a code compliance official and building inspector for the city of Marion, had a love of Volkswagen automobiles. His experience repairing, restoring and rebuilding them made him somewhat of a regional expert on air-cooled engines and earned him the nickname “Dr. V Dub.”

On Saturday, the Car Cruise begins after a registration period from 1-3 PM. Starting at Tootsie’s Ice Cream & More in Vinton (210 North K Avenue) cruisers will proceed to the Tootsie’s location in La Porte City (401 Commercial Street). While Dr. V-Dub had a special place in his heart for Volkswagens, the cruise is open to any make or model street legal vehicle. The $7 entry fee includes a dash plaque and an ice cream treat coupon, redeemable at the La Porte City Tootsie’s. Following the cruise, show your car off on Main Street for the community to enjoy.

Want to join the fight against cancer without cruising? For just $1, add your signature or the name of a loved one who has battled cancer to the Volkswagen Beetle that will be on display in Vinton. Once owned by Neal Caraway, the restoration has been completed by Corey Seibert, owner of the Tootsie’s locations in Vinton and La Porte City.

Tootsie’s will match the dollars raised by this activity, and all proceeds from the “Dr. V Dub” Car Cruise event will benefit the American Cancer Society.
