BurrDaneWaynesville, N.C. – Dane Henry Burr, 87, of Waynesville passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2013 with his family and friends by his side.

A native of Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late Hal Sterling and Maybelle Hanna Burr.  Dana knew at a very early age that he wanted to be an artist. He was an alumnus of the Cleveland Institute of Art.  Throughout his life, Dane made his living with his art and was especially well-known for his lyrical clay sculpture with he sold to collectors worldwide.  His work has earned numerous accolades.  Dane and MaryEtta Burr, his beloved wife of 26 years, have owned and operated Burr Studio, a prominent studio and galley on Main Street in Waynesville, NC since 1995.  Dane was committed to sharing what he knew with others, teaching in various settings for over fifty years.  He was proud of his work at Karamu House – known for multi-cultural theater and arts, as well as the Jewish Community Center and Supplementary Center all in Cleveland OH in the 1960’s and 1970’s.  Dane will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a stepson, David Cryberg and his wife, Becky MacDonald, and daughter, Rachel Cryberg all of Beverly Hills, MI, and twin sister, Elaine Burr Dunbaugh and her children, Gayl and Monte.

Per Mr. Burr’s wishes, no services will be held at this time.
