Diane Kay Calkins, nee Sheffler, 68, passed away September 18, 2015, beloved wife of David Lee Calkins and loving friend of Wayne and Dottie Baxter, sister of David and Leroy Sheffler. She leaves behind many friends, relatives, and her beloved cats.
Born in Vinton, the daughter of Lloyd and Ruth (Stevenson) Sheffler. On August 24, 1968, she married David Lee Calkins and celebrated 47 years of marriage this past year. She was a loving, generous, kind-hearted person who loved the outdoors and her many trips to her childhood farm in Iowa.
She graduated from La Porte City High School and graduated from Wartburg College in Iowa. She also earned her Master’s Degree in Music at The University of Cincinnati. Diane was a teacher for 31 years for Norwood Public Schools and an organist for many local churches, most recently Groesbeck United Methodist. She was also the Treasurer of the Clifton Music Club.
Diane loved golf and played in five U.S. Amateurs, where she also qualified for the U.S. Open. She won four Met Championships and the state championship three times. She was a longtime member of Miami View Golf Club where she won numerous club championships. In 2005, she was inducted into the Legends of Golf.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Sheffler and Ruth (Stevenson) Sheffler.
A funeral service was held September 22, 2015 at Groesbeck United Methodist Church with burial following in Venice Cemetery.
