On Saturday, March 19, 2016, La Porte City Specialty Care (formerly La Porte City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center) will be hosting the city’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt officially begins with the 1 PM whistle and ends when all the eggs are collected. Children through the age of nine are invited to participate. Eggs will be placed in three separate areas of the lawn by age group: ages three and under, ages 4-5 and 6-9 year olds.
In honor of La Porte City Specialty Care’s 50th Golden Anniversary, golden eggs return to the hunt this year, along with nearly 2,500 eggs filled with candy. Each golden egg contains a ticket for a grand prize which can be redeemed by the Easter Bunny.
Along with the Easter Bunny, Winnie the Pooh and SpongeBob Square Pants will be on hand to greet youngsters. Following the hunt, cookies and punch will be served on the patio. This event is open to the public and free for all.
The residents of the nursing home really enjoy preparing for this event and look to it with great excitement. They are the ones who fill every Easter egg with candy and frost every cookie served.
Participants are reminded of the importance of recycling and are encouraged to empty their eggs of candy and leave them at the facility so they can be reused next year. As Easter is early this year, mud and maybe snow(!) are to be expected, so please plan to wear boots and remove them when entering the facility.
Parking is limited at the nursing home and may not be available along the facility’s driveway. Please DO NOT park along the highway as this is a safety concern. Families are encouraged to ride the school bus that will shuttle riders from and to the city parking lot across from the Fire Station. The bus will depart from the city parking lot at 12:40 PM. Following the hunt and refreshments, the bus will make a return trip.
In the event of rain, the hunt will be postponed to the following Saturday, March 26.
