Nature lovers are invited take a field trip to George Wyth State Park and enjoy a naturalist-guided look into what is happening amidst the bare trees, brown grass, dried forbs, and possibly even underground. Katie Shelton, Naturalist at Hartman Reserve, will serve as a guide to discovering what goes on in the environment at a time when few of us humans venture outside to commune with Nature. This outing offers a rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of a white pileated woodpecker that has recently been seen in the area.
The group will gather at the Canfield Shelter in George Wyth State Park at 9:00 AM on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014. Attendees are asked to arrive a few minutes early to register. A map of the park can be accessed by Googling George Wyth State Park and clicking on the link to the park map. The event will be held rain or shine, but not if conditions are icy or stormy, so dress accordingly. The tour is expected to last 1½ – 2 hours.
Afterward, the group will warm up and compare notes at the Cedar Falls Village Inn. For more information contact Susan West at phone 319-827-3013 or send e-mail to susanwest@jtt.net.
