With the start of school next week, it won’t be long before the Union Knights football, volleyball and cross country teams are back in action. Union’s first football game will played at home on Friday, August 28 against Gladbrook-Reinbeck. Last year, the Rebels advanced to the Class A state title game, losing a 28-24 heartbreaker when Logan-Magnolia scored the winning touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the game. Under Coach Joe Hadachek, the Knights advanced to the postseason for the seventh consecutive season in 2014, falling to New Hampton in the quarterfinal round of the 2A state playoffs.
The Union varsity volleyball squad will also open their season at home on September 3rd when BCLUW and Janesville travel to La Porte City. The Knights made their fifth consecutive trip to State last season, losing in the first round to a Mt. Vernon team that eventually placed second in the Class 3A State Tournament.
In Cross Country, the Class 2A Knights’ first meet of the season will take place in Oelwein on September 1. Union, whose travels will take them to several venues throughout central and eastern Iowa, is a program on the rise.
The Progress Review offers coverage of Union Knights athletics that can’t be found in anywhere else. To get it, though, you have to logon to shoplpcink.co and subscribe to the Union Knights Fan Zone. Each week you’ll find sports stories about the action on the volleyball court, football field and cross country venues, video highlights, video slideshows, photo galleries, statistics and more. Best of all, your Union Knights Fan Zone subscription is free.
This year, Fan Zone subscribers will receive access to free downloads of select football, volleyball and cross country photos. They’ll also receive a special discounted price when purchasing the Union Football Highlights DVD at the end of the season.
Fan Zone members who joined last year do not have to subscribe again to enjoy their membership benefits, though they might want to login to confirm their password, which can be easily reset if forgotten.
