National Library Week, April 8-14, is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and library workers and to promote library use and support. From free access to books and online resources for families, libraries offer opportunity to all. Explore the library to discover the many services offered locally at Hawkins Memorial Library.

On Thursday, April 12, at 10:30 AM preschoolers can drive, bike, skate or truck to Story time to read books and learn about vehicles.
Take a little time for your handwork and yourself and join Hawkins’ Handcrafters on Thursday, April 12, from 1 to 3 PM.

You have the opportunity to explore adult coloring at Color and Connect from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, April 17. Choose from loads of pictures and try our metallic, glitter and gel pens, colored pencils and other markers. Come for however long you have during this two-hour period.

Children celebrate Earth Day at Preschool Story Time on Thursday, April 19, at 10:30 AM. They will learn about being green and taking care of the planet.
The discussion is on Monday, April 23, at 1 PM for another great book club read – The Descendants by Kaui Hart Hemmings. Set against the lush backdrop of Hawaii, this is a novel about an unconventional family forced to come together and re-create its own legacy. Stop in and pick up a copy of this book.

Piggy bank workshops for the kids will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 24 and 25, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, to celebrate Smart Money Week. Drop in and make one to take home
The Top 10 Mistakes Gardeners Make free program is on Wednesday, April 25, at 6:30 PM. We’re all guilty of at least one of these common mistakes! Join us for a light-hearted and informative presentation when we talk about some of the most common mistakes and how to correct them. Presented by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and Black Hawk County Master Gardeners.
