La Porte City Fire and Rescue Training Exercises Simulate Grain Bin Rescue
The La Porte City Fire Rescue received a donation from Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica) of potential life-saving grain bin rescue equipment on August 11, 2014. A series of grain bin rescue exercises followed, to train rescuers in the proper use of the specialized equipment.
La Porte City’s volunteer Fire Rescue department received a 10-panel system grain bin rescue tube, slide hammer and other accessories manufactured by Outstate Data in Elbow Lake, Minnesota. The system is designed to be the most affordable and adaptable system available in the market today.
FCSAmerica has identified grain bin rescue equipment as a critical need across its four-state territory. Grain bin entrapments can happen in a matter of seconds, and far too many end in injury or death because the specialized rescue equipment isn’t available at the nearest fire house.
“At FCSAmerica, we’re committed to supporting the agriculture communities we serve,” said Jason Gates, a financial officer in FCSAmerica’s Cedar Falls office.
“I’m proud that we are equipping local fire departments with grain bin rescue equipment that has proven to save the lives of farmers and farm workers.”
