McFarlane Park be hosting a full blown Halloween celebration on the weekend of September 27 & 28. This year the park will welcome the famous hobbit Bilbo Baggens of Bag End. Campers will follow Bilbo’s adventure with his friends, Thorin and company as they return to the lonely mountain to recapture the dwarves’ home and treasure. Be warned there is a dragon to be dealt with, along with some angry goblins. We will also be joined by Gandalf (wizard), wood elves, Beorn (changeling bear), Bard, mountain eagles, trolls, giant spiders, and wargs. Friday night will be movie night featuring Bilbo’s adventures on the big screen, popcorn and hot chocolate will be available free of charge.
The spook ride will take place as dark ascends on Saturday evening. It will be your job to help Bilbo reach the lonely mountain and recover the dwarf treasure from Smaug the dragon. Beware!
Saturday will feature a catapult pumpkin challenge as well as pumpkin decorating (pumpkins available $3.50 each). Prizes will be awarded for 1st-3rd places for the campsite decorating contest, along with prizes for adult and child (12 & under) costumes. A noon potluck is planned with chili, coffee and bottled water provided. Please bring a side dish to share, eating utensils, and an appetite.
