Attend week one of the Summer Reading Program, featuring Fire Heroes, on Tuesday, July 7, from 6 to 7 PM, with La Porte City Firefighters. Learn more about these local heroes, view vehicles and equipment, and participate with fun fire safety experiences. This program will be held at Hawkins Memorial Library and the La Porte City Historical FFA & Ag Museum Fire Station and Jailhouse.
An American Tail, Fievel Goes West is the 1:15 PM movie on Wednesday, July 8. A family of émigre mice decides to move west, unaware that they are falling into a trap perpetrated by a smooth talking cat.
Summer Reading crafts are Friday, July 10. Kids can be creative making superhero projects any time between 1 and 5 PM on Fridays in July.
Blank Park Zoo is our second Summer Reading Program on Tuesday, July 14, at 6 PM. You will witness animals doing some amazing things – just like superheroes!
The animated movie Green Lantern, Emerald Knights plays Wednesday, July 15, at 1:15 PM. As the home planet of the Green Lantern Corps faces a battle with an ancient enemy, Hal Jordan prepares new recruit Arisia for the coming.
Shanghai Girls by Lisa See is the July 27, 1 PM, book club selection. In 1937 Shanghai, Pearl Chin and her younger sister, May, are having the time of their lives – until the day their father tells them that he has gambled away their wealth. To repay his debts, he must sell the girls as wives to suitors who have traveled from Los Angeles to find Chinese brides.
