The Tale of Despereaux is the movie at 1:15 PM on Wednesday, July 29. This is the tale of three unlikely heroes – a misfit mouse, an unhappy rat, and a bumbling servant girl – whose fates are intertwined with that of the castle’s princess.
Join the free and fun learning session, Superheroes in Science, on Thursday, July 30. Kids will make rockets and catapults during this hands-on aerospace engineering program presented by the Black Hawk Co. Extension Service. Sessions are 1 to 2 PM for 2nd grade and younger, and 2:30 to 3:30 PM for 3rd -5th grade. Please note the Thursday date.
On Friday July 31, kids get creative making superhero projects at our Summer Reading craft day from 1 – 5 PM. Projects include capes, masks, dogs, dog toys and more.

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is the August Book Club selection. In the beginning, the Walls family lived like nomads, and then later retreated to a dismal West Virginia mining town. As the dysfunction of the family escalated, Jeannette and her brother and sisters had to fend for themselves. Read the book and meet with this group on Monday, August 24, at 1 PM for the discussion.
