Hawkins Memorial Library will be closed for regular business on Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14, for Festival of Trails. We will open briefly Saturday for the 1 PM Magic show.
Enjoy a free Magic Show at 1 PM Saturday, June 14 at the library. Comedy Magician Rick Eugene provides comical entertainment and magic together that is fun for the whole family.
On Monday and Thursday afternoons, Kindergarten-5th graders can retain and improve reading skills by reading with volunteers with the Succeeding at Reading program. Register your child and make sure they read this summer.
The Curious Science Detectives program for Tuesday, June 17 is about maps. Kids will learn about geospatial technology and go on a scavenger hunt. These weekly free and fun hands-on learning sessions are from 1 to 2 PM for K-2nd grade and 2:30 to 3:30 PM for 3rd -5th.  Register now and join the fun.
Watch The Lego Movie at 1:15 PM on Wednesday, June 18. An ordinary Lego construction worker, thought to be the prophesied ‘Special’, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the Lego universe into eternal stasis.
Little Wolves by Thomas Maltman is the June 23, 1 PM book discussion selection for adults. Little Wolves features the intertwining stories of a father searching for answers after his son commits a heinous murder, and a pastor’s wife who has returned to the town for mysterious reasons of her own. Pick up a copy of this book at the library.
Architecture is the topic for the Curious Science Detectives program on Tuesday, June 24. Kids will use spaghetti and marshmallows to build structures. Register to join this free and fun hands-on learning session from 1 to 2 PM for Kindergarten-2nd grade and 2:30 to 3:30 PM for 3rd-5th grades.  Programs are presented by the Black Hawk County Extension 2014 STEM Library Tour.
Alice in Wonderland is the flick showing on Wednesday, June 25, at 1:15 PM. Nineteen-year-old Alice returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she reunites with her old friends and learns of her true destiny: to end the Red Queen’s reign of terror. This is the 2010 version with Johnny Depp.
