Note to self: Register your child for the library’s Every Hero Has a Story Summer Reading Program. Hero programs are 6 PM on Tuesday nights in July, with crafts on Fridays from 1 to 5 PM. You can start adding up reading time now and earn a prize for every two hours read!
Hawkins Handcrafters meets from 1 to 3 PM, Thursday, June 25. Bring your knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, quilting, or other handwork.
Superheroes in Science program date change! Build a bionic arm and get a glimpse into the field of robotics on Monday, June 29 (changed from Tues., June 30). Join this free and fun hands-on learning session presented by the Black Hawk Co. Extension Service. Sessions are from 1-2 PM for 2nd grade and younger, and 2:30 -3:30 PM for 3rd -5th grade.
When the Game Stands Tall shows at 1:15 PM on Wednesday, July 1. This movie is the journey of legendary football coach Bob Ladouceur, who took the De La Salle High School Spartans from obscurity to a 151-game winning streak that shattered all records for any American sport.
The library will be closed on Saturday, July 4 for the holiday.
LEGORAMA is Monday, July 6, from 2-3:30 PM. Let your imagination go wild as you build a themed creation.
Attend the Fire Heroes Summer Reading Program on Tuesday, July 7, from 6-7 PM with La Porte City Firefighters. Learn more about these local heroes, view vehicles and equipment, and participate with fun fire safety experiences. This program will be held at Hawkins Memorial Library and the La Porte City Historical FFA & Ag Museum.
An American Tail, Fievel Goes West is the 1:15 PM movie on Wednesday, July 8. A family of Emigre mice decides to move out to the west, unaware that they are falling into a trap perpetrated by a smooth talking cat.
From 1-5 PM on Friday, July 10, kids can be creative with Summer Reading crafts. Artists are invited to put their masterpieces in our Summer Reading Art Show.
