Beginning Monday, June 9, Succeeding with Reading gives K-5th graders a chance to retain and improve reading skills by reading with volunteers on Monday and Thursday afternoons. Call to register your child, or to volunteer, and send your kids in for reading time this summer.
On Tuesday afternoons in June, Curious Science Detective programs are at the library. These free and fun hands-on learning sessions are from 1 to 2 PM for K-2nd grade and 2:30 to 3:30 PM for 3rd -5th. The June 10 topic is weather; create a rain gauge, preform a lightening experiment, and check out the cloud bottle. Weekly programs are presented by the Black Hawk Co. Extension 2014 STEM Library Tour. Register now and join the fun.
Make Father’s Day Cards Tuesday through Thursday, June 10-12, from 1 to 6 PM. You bring the creativity, we have the supplies to construct and decorate cards, and you take home a card dad that will love.
Dinosaur is the weekly Wednesday 1:15 PM movie on June 11. An orphaned dinosaur raised by lemurs joins an arduous trek to a sanctuary after a meteorite shower destroys his family home. Bring your friends.
Hawkins Memorial Library will be closed for regular library business on Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14, for Festival of Trails. We will open briefly Saturday for the 1 PM Magic show.
Enjoy a free Magic Show at 1 PM Saturday, June 14, at the library. Comedy Magician Rick Eugene provides comical entertainment and magic together that is fun for the whole family.
Watch The Lego Movie at 1:15 PM on Wednesday, June 18, at the library. An ordinary Lego construction worker, thought to be the prophesied ‘Special’, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the Lego universe into eternal stasis. Popcorn too!
The library interior is in the process of being painted. It may take a while, but it will look clean and fresh when we are done, so please pardon the mess. If you can help with cleaning walls and moving books let us know – we can use you.
