May is Get Caught Reading Month – which means you just might receive a reward when we catch you reading in the library during May.
Design a special Mother’s Day card for your dear mom, or grandmother, Wednesday, May 4, through Saturday, May 7. Choose decorations, stamps, and embellishments to create a treasured keepsake.
Celebrate Mother’s Day at Preschool Story Time on Thursday, May 5, at 10:30 AM. Children will hear stories about mothers and make their mom something special.
Our Color and Connect program is growing and we want you to come and color with us. This adult program is on Tuesday, May 10, from 6 to 8 PM. The library has a variety of coloring pages, markers and pencils for you to use – or bring your own.
The Lion Guard, Return of the Roar is the movie on Wednesday, May 11, at 1:15 PM. Kion assembles the members of the ‘Lion Guard’, with the diverse team of young animals learning how to utilize each of their unique abilities to solve problems and accomplish tasks to maintain balance within the Circle of Life. Rated TVY, Animation/Adventure/Family, plays 44 minutes.
Preschoolers will be fascinated with fishing when we visit the La Porte City FFA Historical & Ag Museum for Story Time on Thursday, May 12, 10:30 AM.
DASH for the STASH, a contest working much like a scavenger hunt, is taking place until May 15, as part of Financial Literacy Month. To participate players gather information and leave answers to quiz questions using a computer. Iowa’s winner will be awarded $1,000 to open or add to an IRA.
Work on your knitting, crocheting, quilting, jewelry, sewing, or other craft of your choice on Thursday, May 12, from 1 to 3 PM at Hawkins Handcrafters.
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is the Monday, May 23, 1 PM book discussion selection for adults. This is a sweeping story of family, love, and friendship told against the devastating backdrop of the history of Afghanistan over the last thirty years. We have a book waiting for you.
