Hawkins Memorial Library is closing at 5 PM on Wednesday, November 27, and all day on Thursday and Friday, November 28 and 29, for the Thanksgiving holiday. The library opens again on Saturday, November 30, at 9 AM.
Write Christmas cards to send to the Holiday Mail for Heroes program, on Monday and Tuesday, December 2 and 3, during library hours. Cards will be provided. Your personal messages will send a welcome touch of home for our troops during this holiday season.
Christmas books with animals kick off the holiday season at Preschool Story Time on Thursday, December 5, at 10:30 AM.
Santa and Mrs. Claus, and Christmas crafts will be in the library on Saturday, Dec 7, for La Porte City’s Home For The Holidays celebration. The Claus’s will be visiting with children from noon to 2 PM that afternoon. Crafts are from 11 AM to 2 PM.
Elf is the movie showing on Wednesday, December 11, at 1:15 PM. After inadvertently wreaking havoc on the elf community due to his ungainly size, a man raised as an elf at the North Pole is sent to the U.S. in search of his true identity. Join us for this festive movie, popcorn, and games.
Preschoolers will read about presents and giving at Story Time on Thursday, December 12.
Hawkins Handcrafters meet once in December, on Thursday the 12th, from 1 to 3 PM. Bring your handwork and join us.
The Union High School Carolers are performing in the library on Friday, December 13, at 5 PM. Enjoy these charming a cappella singers dressed in their Victorian era garb. It is a real holiday treat.

With Santa visiting, the library is looking for Christmas decorations to spruce up the place. We will gladly accept your unwanted trees and decorations.
