October is National Book Month. How to celebrate it? Visit your library!
Children will be busy with books and fall activities about apples and leaves on Thursday, October 3, at Preschool Story Time. Join our guest reader for lots of autumn fun at 10:30 AM.
On Monday, October 7, at 1:15 PM the classic Disney movie Cinderella is playing in the library. A movie, popcorn, and games will be perfect for this day off of school.
To observe Fire Prevention Week, a La Porte City Fireman will be our expert guest to help teach fire safety at Story Time on Thursday, October 10. Preschoolers will enjoy stories, inspect fire equipment, and practice fire safety skills that morning.
Bring a project you are working on and join other handcrafters at the library for a time of work and conversation at Hawkins’ Handcrafters on Thursday, October 10, from 1 to 3 PM.
The library is starting a book club for kids ages 4th grade and up. The Kids’ Wild About Books Club will talk about the book Savvy, by Ingrid Law, on Wednesday, October 16, at 3:45 PM. To participate, register at the library, check out a Savvy book to read before the group meets, and then return on October 16, to talk.
Halloween is just too much fun to save for the end of the month, so children will begin reading about this favorite holiday at Story Time on October 17. And don’t worry; we are still planning our annual Trick-or-Treating event at downtown businesses on October 31.
A recycling craft requiring new or used holiday cards is planned for November. If you have cards you can contribute please send them to the library. Donations of Christmas decorations would also gladly be accepted.
All sale hardcover and paperback books with the author’s last name beginning with the letters A, B, or C, are selling for the bargain price $.25/each at the library during the Month of October.
