Preschoolers will read books and participate in fall activities at the La Porte City FFA Historical & Ag Museum on Thursday, September 20, for Story Time. Think fall and come to the library at 10:30 AM to start the autumn entertainment.

Banned Books Week, Sunday through Saturday, September 23 – 29, is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Check out banned and challenged books from our display, read freely, and judge the content for yourself.

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Aquaman – Rage of Atlantis shows on Monday, September 24, at 1:15 PM. Aquaman must battle foes in the air, on land and in the depths of the Seven Seas, along with some help from The Justice League, to save the day. Not rated, animation/action/adventure, plays 1 hr. and 17 min.

The Alzheimer’s Association is presenting an educational program at Hawkins Memorial Library on Wednesday, September 26, at 2 PM. Learn about Alzheimer’s and Alzheimer’s Association resources. This program is free and open to the public.

Hurray for Homecoming at Story Time! Union football players and cheerleaders will lead preschoolers in book reading and football fun on Thursday, September 27, beginning at 10:30 AM. And everyone will be decorating the sidewalk to show their Union spirit.

Tuesday, October 2 is our next LEGORAMA building program. Show up and build from 4 to 5:30 PM that afternoon. The theme is towers.

Three Cups of Tea, by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, is the October Book Club selection. This is the astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Taliban’s backyard. Read the book and join this group on Monday, October 15, at 1 PM for the discussion.
