September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. Did you know there are more than 2 million registered borrowers in Iowa public libraries and that 68% of Iowans are registered cardholders. If you are not already a library patron, come in, sign-up, and start using your library. We have a lot to offer – for free.

Thursday, Sept. 5, at 10:30 AM, Preschool Story Time begins. Children will learn about using their library by reading, checking out, checking in, and finding books. Youngsters are invited to Preschool Story Time each week for reading and activities on Thursday mornings during the school year.

Read a Book Day is September 6. Take time out of your busy life, and relax with a good book. Reading is a great lifetime hobby and it offers so many positive attributes. It’s relaxing and therapeutic. It’s educational. And it’s entertaining. If you have young children, or elderly people in your home, take the time to read a book to them today. This is a wonderful time to bond and it creates pleasant, lasting memories.

Robin Hood is the early out movie on Wednesday, September 11, at 1:15 PM.  Heroic Robin Hood — along with his trusted companion Little John and his devoted band of merry men — conjures up one famously funny and daring deed after another to outfox greedy Prince John and bring happiness to the residents of Sherwood Forest. A movie, popcorn, games, and friends will make this a fun afternoon. All ages are welcome.

Residents from La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center will visit Story Time on Thursday, September 12, to celebrate Read A Book Day. They will participate in the stories and activities shared that morning with the kids.

Are you a stitcher or crafter with unfinished projects?  Join the Hawkins Handcrafters during afternoons on the second and fourth Thursdays each month. For a couple of hours you can focus on completing a work in progress or start something new. All types of handwork are welcome – just bring your own project. This group meets 1 to 3 PM, Thursday, September 12.

The new chairs in the library are awesome! Thanks to Cedar Valley Bank & Trust, we have added seating style and comfort for our patrons at the computers and tables, for programs, meetings, and movies.  They will be well used and thoroughly enjoyed.
