The Union High School National Honor Society (UHS NHS) will again be competing in the Northeast Iowa Food Bank Student Food Drive. The Student Food Drive gives students the opportunity to help their school and other groups in need in their community as well as promotes volunteerism and community involvement. The Student Food Drive lasts six weeks and Union High School will be in direct competition with Hudson High School. Last year, UHS collected over 2,190 pounds of non-perishable food items and took second place behind Hudson High School. This year, the UHS NHS needs your help!

COMMUNITY EVENT: Friday, September 27, 2013

Food Collection Drop-Off during Homecoming Football Game

Available at the Main Gate only

This does not affect gate admission and attendees are not required to donate. Although the Food Bank does not refuse any non-perishable food donations, their wish list items are the following: peanut butter, canned tuna and chicken, potted meat product (like deviled ham), and canned fruit. Please do not donate any clothing, animal food, or pop or bottled water.

Other community events to look for in the upcoming weeks include a “Spooky Fun Run” for kids, Trick-or-Treating for Hunger (door-to-door collection), and possible collection at a home volleyball game. These events will be posted in the newspapers, in school announcements, and online at the high school and guidance websites.

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank is in Waterloo. The Food Bank services approximately 200 food pantries, community meals, soup kitchens, senior centers, low-income schools and daycares, and after school programs in sixteen northeast Iowa counties. Food collected from the Student Food Drive will be channeled back into participating communities through our Member Agency Distribution Program. Want to see more information?
