Love reading? Check out the library’s new book club. Hawkins Memorial Library is forming a book discussion group, a forum where readers can come together and talk about books and their reading experience. Participants will read a different book each month, then meet to discuss it.
The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher is our March reading selection. At the end of a long and useful life, Penelope Keeling’s prized possession is The Shell Seekers, painted by her father, and symbolizing her unconventional life, from bohemian childhood to wartime romance. When her grown children learn their grandfather’s work is now worth a fortune, each has an idea as to what Penelope should do. But as she recalls the passions, tragedies, and secrets of her life, she knows there is only one answer…and it lies in her heart.
Register, check out a book, read the book by the meeting date and join the group at the library at 1 PM on Tuesday, March 25. You can even take a late lunch and bring a sandwich. Stop at the library to sign up, or call 319-342-3025.
And for kids, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the Kids’ Wild About Books Club read for March. Fourth graders and older will chat about the book, written by Roald Dahl, on Wednesday, March 19, at 3:45 PM. Register at the library, read the book, and join other kids for a lively discussion and a theme snack.
