SWING BUCKET – Bo Bader (#23) hits a three from the corner to give Union its first lead of the game with 6:06 left to play in the district semi-final held in Van Horne on Feb. 18.

Union reeled off 20 points in the final quarter to oust the Benton Community Bobcats from post season play, winning the contest, 50-46, in Van Horne on Feb. 18.

Trailing 33-30 at the outset of the fourth, Union grabbed the lead, 37-35, with just over six minutes to play on a Bo Bader three pointer. Union built an eight point advantage halfway through the period and converted enough free throws down the stretch to thwart a Bobcat comeback.

Bo Bader and Brady Driscol each connected on four three pointers to keep the Knights’ attack alive.

With the win, Union advanced to a District Final date with the #1 Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings on Feb. 22.

The undefeated Vikings, 22-0 on the season, defeated Union earlier this season, 69-57, in a game played in La Porte City on Jan. 3. Again Vinton tested the Knights mettle, this time in the Benton Community gym. The first half was an even contest, as Union trailed only by three, 34-31, heading into the locker room, buoyed by Brady Driscol’s 14 points.

Both teams struggled to put points on the scoreboard in the remaining two quarters, with Vinton coming up the victor, 56-45.

Offensively, Brady Driscol finished with 17 points, with Jay Scheel the only other Knight scoring in double fiigures with 10. Bo Bader added 7, Kolten Bader 5, Tanner Heckt 4 and Aaron Haas 2.
