Prior to the meeting, the City Council held a workshop to discuss a proposed new public works facility.
The City Council of La Porte City, Iowa met in regular session on August 24, 2015. Mayor David Neil called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM with Council Members Eric Allsup, Todd Butler, Sarah Craft and Brent Sadler present. Absent was Council Member Mike Johnson.
The Council held a public hearing and approved an ordinance to vacate a portion of Railroad Street. The Council also held hearings a rezoning request from East Central Iowa Cooperative and on changes to permitted uses and exceptions in C1 and C2 Districts.
Approval was given for a proposal for design services from MSA Professional Services. The proposal is for the design, bidding and project administration for reconstruction of Bishop Avenue from East Main Street to the railroad crossing. Estimated costs for the services is $45,500.00. Construction is expected to take place in the summer of 2016.
The Council reviewed an offer from East Central Iowa Cooperative for the purchase of the recently vacated portion of Railroad Street. A public hearing on the proposed sale will be held on September 14, 2015.
The Council granted permission for the closure of the 200 block of Main Street on September 12, 26 and October 3 for events hosted by PnB Brew Pub. The Council also approved a temporary service permit to allow sales and consumption of alcohol on the street during the closure times.
The Council also approved the Mayor’s appointment of Shawn Mehlert to the Utilities Board of Trustees and Terra Wood to the Board of Adjustment.
The next Council meeting will take place on September 14, 2015.
