By Annette (Hall) Dungan, Class of 1954
The atmosphere at the La Porte City Golf Club turned red and gold on the evening of August 3, 2013. 172 La Porte City High School (LPCHS) alumni and guests met for the 2013 reunion, hosted by the classes of 1954 and 1955. After a social hour spent in conversation renewing old friendships and making new ones, dinner was served.
The tasty dinner consisting of baked chicken breast or Swiss steak, fruit salad, potatoes, vegetables, rolls and dessert was catered by La Porte City Bakery, Etc. Union High School students earning silver cord service hours served the dinner and cleaned up afterwards. This fine group of students did an exceptional job.
Entertainment was provided by a women’s barbershop quartet. They sang a variety of songs, including 50’s rock and roll, gospel and pop. One song involved a skit using members of the audience. The group was enjoyed by all.
A prize was awarded to the earliest graduate in attendance, Sylva Frank Kehl, Class of 1938. Another prize went to Dr. Dick Brust (Class of ‘50) and his wife, Margaret Jesse Brust (Class of ‘53) for traveling the greatest distance to attend the reunion.
If you graduated from La Porte City High School before 1960 and didn’t attend the reunion this year, save the date of August 1, 2015, when the next reunion will be held. The Classes of 1956 and 1957 will host the event. Watch for your invitation in the mail and join other LPCHS Rams there. Don’t miss out!
