The Union Community School District is proud to announce Jim Cayton as the new high school principal at Union High School, pending approval by the Board of Directors. Cayton, a 1980 graduate of La Porte City High School, will be bringing 31 years of educational experience, including nine years as a building administrator, all with the Mid-Prairie Wellman School District, to his new position at Union.
During the interview process, which included administrators, teachers, support staff, coaches, and community members, Mr. Cayton set himself apart with his commitment and knowledge of the educational process, ability to connect to all learners, along with his vision for technology integration in and out of the classrooms.
“Union High School students and staff are going to flourish under Mr. Cayton’s leadership and his vision. I am excited to be part of that growth,” stated Travis Fleshner.
Fleshner, who has served in the capacity as high school principal at Union since 2005, was selected in December to replace Neil Mullen as District Superintendent when he retires June 30.
