The La Porte City High School Class of 1963 held it’s 55th Class Reunion on September 7 and 8, 2018. Friday’s activities included: bring your own lunch at the Ballheim house, a tour of the FFA museum and a potluck with grilled hamburgers and brats at the Ballheim house followed by a ghost tour of that house. Emily Nelson did a great job conducting the tour of the museum. On display were many LPC Rams memorabilia. Besides the regular building we went to the old firehouse/jail building including going upstairs to see where we had vocal music and band as 5th and 6th graders.
On Saturday we were back at Ballheim’s for leftovers, then on to Dave Anton’s farm for viewing their beautiful flowers and house and learning about their farming operation. Seeing soybeans growing and the huge equipment was especially thrilling for the spouses not raised or ever having lived in a farm community. Saturday evening was our banquet dinner held at the LPC Community Center. It was catered by Snyder Catering from Waterloo. The food was delicious especially the baked Swiss Steak—nostalgic was John Ballheim’s description. Trivia 1963 was played besides much conversing and picture taking.
Twenty of our remaining 54 classmates along with 17 spouses attended one or more of these activities.
